Project Background
As the lead instructional designer and multimedia artist at Youth Digital, I directed a small team to develop a Unity game that young students could create for our online 3D Game Development course. We had 3 months to build a 3D platforming game with hundreds of themed assets that students could swap out to customize their own projects. I was responsible for creating the concept art-work, guiding 3D artist, developing the 3D models used in the game and the onscreen instructor teaching Unity to students.

Tools
Blender, Unity, Photoshop, Visual Studio
Unique Challenges
The project size had to be small so students could develop and run their games smoothly on a non-gaming laptop. We chose to forego image textures to keep project sizes small and maintain a clean consistent low-poly style. This reduced complexities like scaling and tiling allowing students to focus on the level design instead of asset modifications.
We also had to produce 3 consistent themes with the addition of 2 more as bonus packs that students could download if they completed portions of the course. Each asset had to function identically to eliminate any confusion when following along with course instructions.

Conclusion
The 3D Game Development course went on to become a huge success, bringing in thousands of students and being offered in public schools as coding course. Here's a snippet of the intro course video.
